New look Sardine Festival set to sizzle in Portimão

Portimão’s famous Sardine Festival is set to return and this year it will take place in a new location with a new image, a new format and a more daring programme.

Between 3 and 11 August the 18th annual Sardine Festival will take place in Portimão’s Parque de Feiras e Exposições. With its new direction it is hoping to attract even more visitors.Every year thousands of people visit the festival, which in recent years has taken place along the city’s riverfront. This year it will take place in the new location where a ‘Dinosaur World’ exhibition will run simultaneously, in the Portimão Arena.

As one of the region’s most emblematic events, the festival offers a true gastronomic experience coupled with handicrafts, music, shows and children’s entertainment, with the Arade River as a backdrop.

The 10,000 square-metre venue will incorporate all the necessary conditions to host such a high profile event, and will boast an entertainment line-up to match. New characteristics include a daily recreation of the historic process of unloading fish from the boats, starting every day at around 6pm at the Portimão tinning museum; a laser and firework show, national performers and an eating area for up to 2,500 people.

Artists taking to the stage during the event include MissyM (from Portuguese teen soap Morangos com Açúcar), Xico Barata, comedian Herman José, Serafim, rapper Boss AC, and Calcinha Preta.
