FARO CAR HIRE PORTUGAL - News
Algarve Fair 2012
On 2 and 3 June, the annual International Algarve Fair will once again fill the Fatacil fair ground in Lagoa, offering a fantastic day out for all the family.
This year, organisers have strived to provide a fun-packed day for all members of the family, with plenty to see and do for the children, while parents discover a range of quality business and service providers from across the region.
The fact that this year’s International Algarve Fair falls on the same weekend as the UK celebrations for HM Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee, means the organisers have two great competitions and some fun activities to celebrate!
Children who don’t fancy singing in a choir but have a flair for art can enter the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Art Competition to win a prize. The competition is open to children aged between 7 and 12 and should be a flat piece of artwork such as a painting or drawing inspired by the Diamond Jubilee. Entries will be displayed at the Fair before three independent judges decide on the winner.
Continuing the theme of the Diamond Jubilee, children can get all dressed up to join the adults in the fabulous 50’s parade each day at 3pm, where competitors are in with a chance of winning a Royal Caribbean Cruise for two, courtesy of Royal Caribbean representatives to Portugal, Melair.
The 50’s Parade is open to family members of all ages, with votes being cast by fair visitors, so participants are encouraged to show up on both days: double the exposure, double the votes, double the chance to set sail on the trip of a lifetime!
Think Grease. Think Elvis. Think sock hops and polka dots. But whatever you think, keep it to yourself as the competition will be fierce.
Also, if you have a slightly larger accessory, such as a bicycle, a motorbike or even a 50’s car to complete the look, feel free to bring it along (but please call in advance so necessary arrangements for access can be made).
So if you fancy yourself as the next Buddy Holly or a cool Pink Lady, don those cat eye glasses, step into your saddle shoes and make sure you Rock ‘n’ Roll down to this year’s International Algarve Fair in Lagoa.
Following the introduction of a children’s choir competition in the previous edition and its great success, organisers have decided to do it all over again, giving the reigning champions from the International School of the Algarve a chance to defend their title at this year’s event.
To enter the competition, which is open to all amateur children’s choirs from across Portugal, or for more information, those interested should contact the fair manager.
Aside from the competitions, there are plenty of other activities for youngsters to get involved in the fair, including the Algarve Dog Show, where children can show off their doggy handling skills, win some prizes and see a range of lovely dogs looking for new homes.
New to the Fair this year to keep the youngsters amused, will be an activity area from O’Kido party and play centre, who will also be running the fair’s first ever children’s restaurant with yummy items on the menu including pancakes. O’Kido will also have bouncy castles , fun activities and a team to entertain the children on both days of the fair.
The main arena area will also feature the popular fire engine and death defying zip-wire from the Lagoa fire brigade.
Local volunteer fire fighters will be on hand to help youngsters fire the hose and climb into the fire engine.
Back by popular demand will be the children’s entertainers from Circo Pequeno. Now a regular feature at the International Algarve Fair, the team from Circo Pequeno will add fun and flair with their usual array of stilt walkers, jugglers and other colourful performers.
“The children’s activities are really important in making the International Algarve Fair a fun day out for all the family. The organising team are really excited as there will be so much for visitors of all ages to see and do throughout the weekend,” said fair manager Sónia Seixas.
